Manthorpe Engineering have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer to join their team. You will be working on technically complex products and assemblies for flagship UK Defence programs.

The Project Engineer will be the primary technical lead of designated projects. They will be the point of contact with the customer and will ensure their designated projects are delivered on time, right first time and within cost targets. This will be achieved through strong technical leadership, liaising with all other business functions to ensure manufacturing best practice is embedded throughout the project.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1. Contract Review

  • Participate and contribute to all related pre-contract reviews with the customer
  • Participate and contribute to all related internal contract reviews
  • Ensure all customer requirements are captured and understood

2. Engineering & Planning

  • Establish methods of manufacture for required items and transfer these through to effective manufacturing routings.
  • Definition of all material, subcontract and other non-manufacturing requirements
  • Creation of manufacturing route cards and issue for manufacture
  • Creation of stage drawings, procedures and other manufacturing aids as required
  • Provide technical support throughout the designated projects to all business areas as required
  • Monitor performance of right first time, costs and delivery at all times
  • Be the single point of contact with the customer for all technical and quality issues

3. Deliver project commitments on time

  • Ensure effective communication across all business functions to meet project delivery requirements
  • Participate in delivery reviews with the customer
  • Engage in visits to both customer and supplier sites where required.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all lessons learnt are captured and embedded to continuously improve business performance
  • Work with the wider team to develop business processes, remove waste and non-value add activities

5. Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Quality Management System

6. Pro-actively assist the Document Quality Team with creation of Documentation Packs for designated projects

Other Relevant Information;

  • Working Hours - Mon-Thu 0730-1630, Fri 0730-1400 (40hr week)

Person Specification / Requirements

  • Qualified to HNC level minimum
  • Project Engineering experience within a precision engineering business in a regulated industry
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of defining methods of manufacture for complex products and assemblies.
  • CAD/CAM experience in a relevant software package would be an advantage
  • Able to understand and interpret complex engineering drawings.
  • Good working knowledge of Project Management methodologies
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Project.
  • Capable of working un-supervised and using own initiative.
  • Good eye for detail with a methodical approach to the task in hand.
  • Due to the security level of the projects we work on, British Nationality is required for this role.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £43,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
